3. Go Sightseeing
Another long layover in another airport can feel like a waste of time, but if you’ve got at least 7 hours till that next flight, why not check out Auckland?
Your fastest option is to hire a taxi outside the terminal to reach downtown in about 30 minutes. To save cash, though, you’ll have to give up some time: the Airporter 380 bus route runs frequently but takes about 75 minutes.
Split the difference with a SkyBus Express shuttle, which has you downtown in 45 minutes for $18 one-way or $34 round-trip.
Thanks to its prime location, Auckland is all about the views! Sky Tower offers panoramic urban views – plus bungee jumping if you’re feeling adventurous! Hike up Mount Eden, the highest volcanic peak on the mainland, and be treated to stunning harbor views.
Hop on a 15-minute ferry across the harbor to Devonport, known for its views and architecture. For some local history, head to the Auckland Museum or the Howick Historical Village, which shows how Auckland’s first settlement looked and felt.
Don’t forget to leave plenty of time to make it back to the airport for that next flight – otherwise, your layover will be a lot longer than you anticipated!

7. 3 Wise Men
3 Wise Men are the shirtmaker and menswear store of choice to the star in every board room, around every water cooler and lounging in every bar.
One day in 2004, 3 of us - all mates - were having a general chat about life, and we got to the topic of shirts here in New Zealand. All three of us had lived overseas where selection, price and the ability to buy on-line meant that shirt shopping was actually a pleasure. However back here the choice and cost of shirts meant we were just not buying them on a regular basis.
We noticed that while a lot of guys here would still rather cut off their arm than go clothes shopping there was an increasing awareness of fashion amongst guys.
And back then, while you could pay the earth for a designer number, or grab a low cost, a low-quality item that lasted about as long as a pork chop in the sun, there was nothing for the guys who wanted to look good but didn’t have to pay the earth for it.
We established 3 Wise Men producing the softest, richest 100% double-ply cotton shirts making sure everything we make wears beautifully and is made to last.
We live by the GBR. This stands for Good Buggers Rule. We like good buggers. We try to be good buggers. We try to work with good buggers.
It seems to work. Many of our staff and customers have been with us since the start. They’re good buggers. And they rule.

8. Strawberry Farm
Best enjoyed during the Summer months it’s located at 127 Kirkbride Rd, Mangere just up the road from the nearby Airport Hotels.
They are very busy in the summer months so car parking can be an issue however the queues to get ice-cream and desserts are quick due to having about 5 ice cream maker lines going all at once.
Amazing ice cream and fresh vegetables to enjoy. I’ve compared this to another farm closer to the Airport and I definitely prefer this one. There are also a number of tables for you to sit and enjoy your fresh dessert.
